Shape your future self by nurturing your human spark
Many of us are facing a reckoning: an exciting but scary prospect of self-disruption. Jason will help you reflect on how to shape your future self by nurturing your human spark, so you can recalibrate, grow more resilient, and help build a bolder future.

We often spend a lot of time focusing on the systems around us, but not enough on those within us. The forces and fields around us affect who we are and how we show up. But the forces and fields within us can affect the outer systems.
Using a layers of self model, we can better understand our capabilities, our potential, and our sources of motivation, energy, and joy — aka, our human spark.
Understanding our own and others’ human sparks can help us better shape futures we believe the world needs together.
Why is this conversation important now?
Teams are shrinking. Those in jobs fear losing them in a volatile job market. The work inside and outside of permanent work is demanding more from us with less return, financially or motivationally. Many of us and our peers are burning out or withdrawing from what we believed we were on this planet to do. Self-preservation and care are critical for us. And also for the world we can help shape. We need our best selves so we can decide if we want to be part of building a better future for others, saving ourselves or ideally doing both with integrity.
Who is this session for?
Designers and ambitious change makers who are seeking clarity and strength while the environment swiftly moves around them. It’s especially for those asking how they can find a path forwards and recalibrate their future without losing themselves.
Key takeaways
- A clearer frame for their human spark, their superpower and the areas they can develop for the future
- Tools and frameworks for future self-reflection for themselves and others
- Deeper connections with peers and an understanding of the diversity of human sparks around them
Jason Mesut helps people and organisations shape hope-fuelled futures. He works as a creative coach to product and design leaders, a strategy consultant to organisations, and a connector of design communities and talent. Formally trained as an industrial designer, management consultant, user researcher and executive coach, he’s learned most from 27 years of shaping better futures with real people, products and organisations. Jason shares openly, from his Shaping Design tools to tell honest stories of design leadership challenges, believing that vulnerability helps others find their own way. His latest work explores the human spark: what fuels designers, and what remains distinctly theirs as AI reshapes the forces and fields around them.
